History

    Louisiana was first discovered by Alvárez Piñeda in 1519. Louisiana became a French colony in 1763 but after the French and Indian war had begun it was taken over by Spain. In 1800 Louisiana was given back to the French but then Napolean had decided to sell it to the United States in 1803. During the Civil War Louisiana joined the Confederacy.

    Louisiana is a leader in natural gas, salt, petroleom, and sulfur production. Also this t\state produces large amounts of the crops: Sweet potatoes, rice, sugar cane, pecans, soybeans, corn, and cotton. Also Louisiana is a big tourist spot!

    On August 29, 2005 Louisiana was hit by hurricane Katrina causing a lot of damage and leaving hundreds to thousands without homes. Hurricane Katrina had also killed hundreds of people causing a lot of devastatios. As you know the recovery from this large storm will not be easy and will take quite a bit of time!
